Times Square Billboard Targets Rising Egg Prices Amidst Presidential Promises

NEW YORK—A new initiative by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) in collaboration with MomsRising has been launched to spotlight the increasing cost of eggs, a staple that many Americans view as crucial in their daily lives. This comes amid concerns over President Donald Trump's unfulfilled promise to lower grocery prices.

Randi Weingarten, President of AFT, expressed discontent with the current administration's priorities, stating, “Donald Trump campaigned on the promise to lower grocery prices. While he is acting aggressively to lower taxes for the wealthy, we haven’t seen that zeal to help the working class.” She highlighted the lack of progress on reducing food prices, controlling inflation, and fostering job growth, accusing the administration of focusing on benefiting the wealthy.

The advertisement, which is set to run in Times Square, begins its display at 6am ET and will continue for two weeks. It aims to question consumers directly with the message “Are Your Grocery Bills Lower?” against a backdrop showing the price hike of eggs since Trump’s inauguration. The current average price for a dozen Grade A eggs in U.S. cities has reached $7.55.

Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, executive director of MomsRising, commented on the broader implications of these economic challenges, emphasizing the need for elected officials to address the rising costs of essentials. “What’s happening in our country is no laughing matter to America’s moms, who want the lawmakers we elect to reduce the cost of eggs, food, childcare, housing and other essentials—not create chaos and hardship by handing the reins of government to unaccountable billionaires,” she remarked.
