State Senate and Assembly Leaders Pressure Kaiser on Union Proposals
California State Leaders Urge Kaiser to Resolve Contract Dispute
In a significant development for mental health care workers, California State Senate President Pro Tem Mike McGuire, alongside Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, has taken action to address ongoing contract negotiations with Kaiser Permanente. Both leaders have co-authored a letter directed at Kaiser CEO Greg Adams, urging him to consider "the union’s reasonable contract proposals to ensure the delivery of timely and appropriate behavioral health services to your patients."
Efforts are underway to rally a majority of Democratic legislators to endorse the letter, similar to a previous initiative led by Speaker Rivas. This legislative backing aims to pressure Kaiser into engaging in negotiations with enhanced proposals.
Support from Hawaii and Social Workers
Therapists from Hawaii, experienced in striking against Kaiser, have expressed their solidarity through a supportive video message, sharing "lovely Maui energy" with their colleagues.
Moreover, the National Association of Social Workers' California Chapter has increased its support for the strike. An Instagram post earlier this week highlighted their backing. The chapter is also preparing a letter to Greg Adams, anticipated to be shared in the coming week.
