Congress has passed the National Defense Authorization Act, which includes an expansion of the World Trade Center Health Program. The additional funding will allow the program to expand its health services to active-duty military personnel, federal employees, and civilians present during the Pentagon attack and the Flight 93 crash on 9/11. AFSCME President Applauds Expansion of World Trade Center Health Program

AFSCME President Lee Saunders expressed his approval following the passing of the National Defense Authorization Act by Congress, which incorporates an extension of the World Trade Center Health Program.

At long last, Congress has moved forward to allocate additional funding for the World Trade Center Health Program. This critical health plan delivers necessary health care services to 9/11 first responders. With this extra funding, we're able to broaden the program to cover active-duty military, federal workers, and civilians present during the Pentagon attack and Flight 93 crash in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Our country will always remember those, including numerous AFSCME members, who selflessly risked their lives to rescue others on that somber day. The phrase 'Never Forget' signifies the ongoing need to respect their service and sacrifice, through actions rather than just words. With the support of Senators Gillibrand, Braun, and Schumer, these heroes will now have access to the healthcare they require.
