Genesis Logistics Drivers Join Teamsters Local 322 in High-Stakes Union Vote

In a decisive move towards improved working conditions, more than 200 drivers at Genesis Logistics have voted overwhelmingly in favor of joining Teamsters Local 322. This significant step positions the 214 employees, who serve 7-Eleven stores across the Mid-Atlantic, to negotiate their first union contract.

"I want to personally congratulate these workers and welcome them to our Teamsters family," expressed Dwayne Johnson, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 322. "Despite an aggressive campaign of illegal union busting, these workers remained determined to achieve the dignity and respect they deserved. Now, we’re ready to fight alongside them to win a strong first Teamsters contract."

The road to unionization was met with fierce opposition from Genesis Logistics, a DHL Supply Chain subsidiary. The company employed various tactics to dissuade union efforts, including hiring anti-union consultants, holding mandatory meetings, surveilling workers, and disciplining union advocates. In response, the Teamsters lodged over a dozen complaints of unfair labor practices during the organization period.

Matthew Relford, a driver at Genesis and new Teamsters member, shared his perspective, stating, “We organized with the Teamsters because we’ve had enough — enough of the low pay, the lack of respect, and poor benefits. Management tried everything to stop us. But we stuck together and won. We’re proud to be Teamsters, and we’re ready to fight for what we've rightfully earned.”

Teamsters Local 322, which represents over 2,000 workers in Virginia, continues to support its newest members as they enter contract negotiations. Further information about their initiatives can be found at TeamstersLocal322.org.
