(ENFIELD, Conn) – In Enfield, Conn., 20 i-Health workers, backed by Teamsters Local 671, picketed against unfair labor practices, sparking community support.
In March, i-Health employees joined Teamsters. Recently, they authorized a strike due to the company’s refusal to negotiate fairly. After two days, i-Health unlawfully dismissed 11 Teamsters and a temporary worker.
“It's shocking i-Health treats us like this before the holidays,” stated Augustin Ayala, an employee. “Their efforts to break our spirit will not succeed.”
The picket continues, with U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal supporting workers against corporate greed.
“Corporations must not exploit workers. Americans stand with these workers for fairness,” expressed Sen. Blumenthal.
i-Health, a DSM-Firmenich subsidiary, faces two ULP charges filed by the Teamsters for violating workers’ rights.
“i-Health’s management should feel ashamed for mistreating workers,” commented Anthony Lepore, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 671. “We’ll do what it takes for a fair contract.”
