AFT President Weingarten Mourns the Passing of President Carter

WASHINGTON—In remembrance of President Jimmy Carter, AFT President Randi Weingarten expressed the profound sorrow shared across the nation following his passing. Weingarten highlighted Carter's life marked by "incredible selflessness and decency," and his commitment to values such as social justice, equity, and humanity.

Carter's tenure in office was notable for the creation of the Department of Education, a testament to his dedication to ensuring opportunities for all young Americans, a mission that remains crucial today. Furthermore, his role in brokering a historic peace agreement between Israel and Egypt stands as a significant achievement in his presidency.

Even after his presidency, Carter remained active in public service, focusing on global peace initiatives and efforts to enhance election protection, international health, and housing. Weingarten emphasized, "Our country is better off because of Jimmy Carter," offering condolences to the Carter family during this time of mourning.
