AFA-CWA demands release of David Huerta from ICE custody immediately
Union Leaders Demand Release of David Huerta from ICE Custody
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 8, 2025) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) is calling for the immediate release of David Huerta from SEIU California, who has been detained by ICE. They are also urging that any charges against him be dismissed.
David Huerta, a prominent labor leader, was reportedly advocating for workers' rights when he was apprehended by ICE officers who were allegedly masked. AFA-CWA believes his arrest is a violation of his First Amendment rights and a challenge to the principles of due process and the rule of law in the United States.
There have been previous instances where labor union members have been targeted by immigration authorities. This trend is seen as a misuse of power by the current administration to intimidate workers who are exercising their rights to democratic engagement in the workplace.
The union has expressed solidarity with immigrant workers against actions they deem hostile to workers' rights, which they describe as illegal and akin to kidnapping and human trafficking. AFA-CWA stands firmly with David Huerta and others who advocate for freedom and democracy.
The Association of Flight Attendants is a union dedicated to addressing the needs of Flight Attendants. With a history of over 79 years, AFA has played a pivotal role in enhancing the profession by improving wages, benefits, and working conditions. It represents 55,000 Flight Attendants and is a part of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO, a group comprising 700,000 members. More information is available at www.afacwa.org.
