Southern Glazer's Workers in Louisiana Choose Teamsters Union Representation

In a significant move for labor organization in Louisiana, 183 drivers and warehouse workers at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits facilities have opted to join the Teamsters Union. The workers, now under the representation of Teamsters Locals 270 and 568, are employed across five locations in Geismar, Kenner, Lafayette, Shreveport, and Monroe.

Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference, expressed optimism about this development, stating, “These workers know that Teamsters representation is the path to good wages, benefits, and real job protections. We are ready to hit the ground running to negotiate a strong first contract.”

The decision was made through a card check process, where Southern Glazer’s employees in Louisiana signed authorization cards to confirm their choice. This marks the inclusion of five more facilities under the Teamsters, who have now organized 68 Southern Glazer’s locations across the nation.

Doug Beckham, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 568, emphasized the union’s growing influence, saying, “The momentum Teamsters have had at this company over the past year has been incredible. The confidence I have in this very capable group of people who made this organizing win happen shows me how bright our future looks and that we will continue to organize and grow our union.”

Highlighting the unity among the workers, Stephen Sorrell, President of Local 270, remarked, “This win highlights the strength and solidarity of our new members. We are proud to welcome them, and we are ready to fight for an agreement that honors their worth.”

Christopher Northern, a fulfillment associate at the Geismar facility and a member of Local 270, shared his thoughts on the unionization, stating, “Joining the Teamsters gives us a voice so we can fight for what we deserve. We are excited to bargain a strong contract that will provide a better quality of life for our families.”

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, founded in 1903, represents 1.3 million workers across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. For additional information, visit Teamster.org. Stay connected with them on X at @Teamsters and on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
