Teamsters Local 50 members in Swansea, Ill. unanimously approved a five-year collective agreement with Waste Management, ensuring an immediate 18% pay increase for commercial and residential drivers, with subsequent yearly boosts of 3.5%.

Ryan Shaw, a residential driver and shop steward with Local 50, praised the achievement, "We won big pay raises in this contract, and stuck together through the entire process. Waste Management's failed attempt to decertify our union last year only fuelled our determination at the bargaining table, leading to immediate six or seven dollar raises for many members.

"Our members held firm, demanding the pay and respect they deserve from Waste Management. With the support of our stewards and senior members, we overcame the decertification attempt. Chuck Stiles, Larry Daugherty, and the Teamsters Solid Waste Division were instrumental in securing this lucrative contract for our members," said Pat Nichols, President of Local 50.
