Historic Daimler Truck Contract Ratification by UAW Members
In a record turnout, Daimler Truck employees under the United Auto Workers (UAW) union approved a groundbreaking four-year contract with a 94.5% vote. This deal impacts 7,300 employees that manufacture Freightliner, Western Star trucks and Thomas Built Buses across North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. Notably, the agreement introduces profit-sharing and Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for the first time at Daimler, and abolishes the tiered wage system, ensuring parity across truck and bus workers by the end of the term.
UAW President Shawn Fain hailed this achievement, stating, “Southern workers, particularly those in the heavy truck industry, have demonstrated their ability to fight for their rights and win significant victories. This contract, won amidst threats of a strike, reflects the relentless drive of Daimler employees and the UAW union to secure fair compensation, particularly in light of the company's record profits." Fain added that workers are more prepared than ever to fight for better working conditions and wages, and the UAW will support them all the way.
Regional Director Tim Smith from Region 8, concurred, saying "The Daimler Truck workforce was enthusiastic and unified, which energized the bargaining team’s push for this record-breaking contract, addressing the concerns most important to our members." He further highlighted the growing power of Southern workers, whether they are unionizing like the courageous employees in Chattanooga and Tuscaloosa, or negotiating improved contracts, in their quest for a voice and fair economy.
