Historic Tentative Agreement Reached Between UAW and Daimler Truck
The United Auto Workers (UAW) has secured a tentative agreement with Daimler Truck, concluding a massive campaign and a looming strike threat. The landmark deal was arranged before the contract’s deadline on April 26.
This four-year agreement provides significant economic benefits for 7,300 workers. These include wage increases of over 25%, the abolition of wage tiers, as well as the introduction of profit-sharing and cost-of-living adjustments. This is the first time such strides have been made since Daimler workers first joined the UAW.
UAW President Shawn Fain highlighted the key aspects of the agreement and acknowledged the critical nature of the fight for justice at Daimler Truck. Fain's full remarks can be viewed on the UAW’s Facebook page.
President Fain and UAW Daimler members will hold a victory rally at 12pm, at UAW Local 3520 in Statesville, NC. To attend, RSVP to [email protected].
President Fain's Remarks on Historic Agreement
President Fain greeted members with news of the victory for those who build Freightliner and Western Star trucks and Thomas Built buses at Daimler Truck North America. He confirmed the tentative agreement with Daimler, emphasizing the promise that record profits lead to record contracts.
Fain revealed that all Daimler workers would see a minimum of a 25% wage increase over the next four years. The agreement also ensures equal pay for equal work, ending wage tiers at Daimler. Workers will see significant raises, with the lowest paid seeing an increase of over $8 an hour.
The agreement also includes provisions for cost-of-living adjustments for the first time in Daimler's history, and a profit-sharing scheme. These measures will ensure workers receive their share of the company's profits. The agreement also includes measures to improve job security and health and safety at Daimler.
In his remarks, Fain also thanked the members for their solidarity and determination. As a result, the agreement is worth significantly more than any previous Daimler contract. He looks forward to sharing more details at the victory rally and in local roll-out meetings.
Finally, Fain reminded everyone that the members of the union are the highest authority, and it is the 7,000 UAW Daimler members who will decide what happens next. He concluded with a thanks to everyone for their support and hard work.
