Transdev Employees Triumph with Significant Contract Wins in Rhode Island

In a decisive victory for transportation workers in Providence, Rhode Island, Transdev bus drivers, dispatchers, fuelers, and cleaners have ratified their first contract, marking a significant triumph after more than a year of negotiations. Represented by Teamsters Local 251, these 56 workers have secured a robust three-year agreement that promises a 24% wage increase, enhanced safety standards, prioritized job bidding based on seniority, and contributions to a Teamsters retirement plan.

Matthew Taibi, the Secretary-Treasurer of Local 251 and Director of the Teamsters Passenger Transportation Division, praised the workers' perseverance, stating, “These workers fought tooth and nail to secure a strong first Teamsters contract.” He emphasized the power of unity by adding, “It just goes to show that when Teamsters fight, Teamsters win.”

The contract covers transportation services provided to key institutions including Brown University, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and Rhode Island College (RIC). This agreement is not just a win for the workers but also reflects community and student support throughout the process.

Daven Cox, a shuttle driver for Transdev, expressed gratitude for the community's solidarity, stating, “We are thankful for the support of the community and students who made it clear they would support us if we had to strike. I’m very proud of my co-workers for staying strong and focused during this long negotiation process.”
