(BELLINGHAM, Wash.) - Teamsters Local 231 members have ratified a four-year deal with Sanitary Service Company. The contract includes over 80 employees, including drivers and mechanics.

“This is a great contract,” said Dean Simpson, a residential driver. “This agreement consolidates everyone into one contract with secured health care, solid pension and significant wage increases.”

This landmark agreement sets new standards for waste haulers in Whatcom and Skagit counties. Key terms include pay for floating route drivers, MLK Jr. Day as a paid holiday, and substantial wage and pension rises.

“This agreement is a benchmark for other solid waste workers in our region,” said Rich Ewing, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 231. “We appreciate Sanitary Services Company for enabling significant benefits for our members and the community.”

Sanitary Services Company, the largest full-service garbage and recycling company in Whatcom County, is now entirely covered by the collective bargaining agreement.
