Kaiser Mental Health Workers Continue Strike with Strong Actions

Strike Momentum Grows as Workers Demand Fair Contracts

The fourth week of strikes is underway with invigorated picket lines and notable media attention. In Southern California, media outlets such as KNBC and Telemundo have reported from the strike in Anaheim, while KNX news radio covered the action outside Los Angeles Medical Center. Meanwhile, college journalists and labor leaders have shown support in San Diego.

In Los Angeles, striking workers made a bold statement by temporarily occupying an intersection to emphasize their resolve for equitable contracts.

Increasing Participation

This week, two additional employees have joined the strike following disruptions within Kaiser’s operations. More are expected to follow suit as the week progresses.

Planned Gatherings and Actions

To foster solidarity, strikers are planning a gathering in Fontana on Thursday, featuring homemade spicy guacamole at 9961 Sierra Avenue. On Wednesday, November 20th, new strike t-shirts will be distributed on the picket lines.

Additionally, on November 21st, simultaneous lunchtime rallies are scheduled at Kaiser’s headquarters in Pasadena and Oakland. Northern California workers will convene in Oakland to express their support for Southern California’s strike efforts.

Support and Resources

This week, around $150,000 from the hardship fund will be distributed to workers, with funding approved by NUHW's Executive Board to continue supporting strikers. The fund aims to provide resources, though not replace wages. Official rules and application forms can be found here.

Donations are crucial to sustain the fund. Share the donation link widely to ensure sufficient funds are available for distribution.

Those needing assistance with groceries can receive food donations from labor allies. Interested workers should fill out this form. Financial support for deferred payments and other necessities is available through the Los Angeles Labor Federation and Labor Community Services. More information can be found on the campaign website.
