Seth Moulton Advocates Infrastructure Investment and Immigration Reform During Andover Forum

During an informal forum in Andover, U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Salem, addressed local business leaders about the urgent need for immigration reform and infrastructure investment. He also highlighted the achievements of the Biden administration.

“Our immigration system is outright broken,” Moulton expressed. “It's crucial to secure the border and reform pathways to citizenship.”

Moulton criticized past negligence in infrastructure investment and its impact on the younger generations. “Our schools demand better investment,” Moulton lamented.

The forum, hosted by the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce at the Doubletree Inn in Andover, attracted a broad audience including business owners, state employees, municipal leaders, and union officials.

Moulton chastised his own party members for denying immigration issues and Republicans for lack of cooperation in reaching solutions. He strongly countered the belief that the Biden administration had been idle on immigration. “The administration executed 535 immigration actions during its first three years,” he informed.

Despite discussing the threat of ongoing inflation, Moulton praised recent economic growth. He stated, “Despite inflation affecting daily life — like increased grocery prices — Americans remain cautiously optimistic about the future economy.”

Moulton emphasized the importance of immigrants to the country and sectors like the restaurant industry. He also discussed his work on the Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party, advocating for attracting and retaining world-class minds.

Moulton, also sitting on the House Armed Services Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, proposed reforms to simplify immigration and control illegal immigration simultaneously. He also remarked on U.S. air strikes against Iraq and Syria last week in retaliation for an attack on American soldiers in Jordan.

The goal of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, according to Moulton, is to maintain a delicate balance between deterrence and entering a wide regional war. He expressed deep concern for the financial distress faced by Steward Health Care System, owner of the Holy Family Hospitals in Methuen and Haverhill.

Representing the Congressional Sixth District in Massachusetts including Cape Ann, Moulton also addressed questions relating to veteran’s services. As a U.S. Marine veteran, Moulton is known for advocating for veterans and assisting them through his office.

Wayne Demers, an insurance agent from Tewksbury, commended Moulton for his straightforward answers to audience questions, advising former service members to reach out to Moulton for help.
