RNs Ratify New 3-Year Contract at Providence Hospitals in California

New Three-Year Contract Ratified by RNs at Eureka and Fortuna Hospitals

Registered nurses at Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka and Providence Redwood Memorial Hospital in Northern California have voted in favor of a new three-year contract, as reported by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU) on October 30. This agreement brings enhancements aimed at improving patient care and ensuring nurse retention.

“I’m most encouraged by our ability to preserve language that protects our members from potentially exorbitant increases to health care costs,” stated Bree Lien, RN, who works in the intensive care unit at St. Joseph Hospital Eureka.

Key Features of the Agreement

  • Preservation of the lift team: This provision is critical for maintaining safe patient care practices for nurses and staff.
  • Introduction of anti-bullying language: Aimed at fostering a safe working environment for all healthcare staff.
  • Health care cost-sharing preservation: Ensures no significant increase in health care expenses for nurses.
  • Economic improvements: Designed to aid in the recruitment and retention of experienced nursing professionals.
  • No takeaways: The agreement maintains existing benefits without reductions.

The contract, effective from July 21, 2026, to July 21, 2029, covers over 700 nurses across both St. Joseph Eureka and Redwood Memorial Hospitals.

The California Nurses Association/National Nurses United is recognized as the largest and fastest-growing union for registered nurses in the United States, representing over 100,000 members across more than 200 facilities in California and over 225,000 RNs nationwide.
