US Foods Faces Allegations of Anti-Union Practices

The battle over unionization rights at a major food distribution company has intensified, with recent accusations of anti-union tactics coming to light. Key leaders have publicly condemned the company’s actions, calling for an end to practices they describe as illegal and retaliatory.

In a statement issued by Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, alongside Josh Graves, Vice President of Teamsters Local 104, serious allegations have been leveled against US Foods. They assert that the company is engaging in "a dirty, illegal, and hostile anti-union campaign" aimed at workers in Arizona seeking representation by Teamsters Local 104.

The union leaders accuse US Foods of attempting to suppress workers' voices by using every strategy from the "anti-union playbook." According to Erickson and Graves, the company's management has retaliated against employees, exploiting language barriers among predominantly Spanish-speaking workers to spread anti-union sentiment.

One incident highlighted in their statement involves the suspension of a union supporter, which they claim is a direct act of retaliation and a breach of federal law. The Teamsters argue that instead of respecting workers' rights, US Foods is employing fear tactics to discourage union membership.

Pointing to the substantial financial success of US Foods—a Fortune 150 company with $39.4 billion in net sales and nearly $7 billion in gross profit—the union leaders argue that such tactics are inexcusable. "Their rights are not for management to grant or deny," the statement reads, criticizing the company's actions as "illegal" and "disgusting."

The Teamsters, representing 5,500 US Foods employees nationally, emphasize their commitment to supporting the workers. They vow to continue their efforts against what they describe as anti-worker practices, with Erickson and Graves stating, "We will not allow US Foods to attack their rights."
