Union Insists Tech Giant Answer Sen. Murphy, Congressional Inquiry

The Teamsters join Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and a bipartisan group of over 30 Senators urging Amazon to cooperate with a congressional inquiry probing into its Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program's questionable practices.

The appeal to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy follows Amazon's unsatisfactory reply to an earlier Senate oversight letter seeking clarity on its DSP's compliance with federal labor law.

“Amazon executives are making billions off hardworking delivery personnel, yet deny their employee status," criticized Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. "We support Senate efforts to hold this corporation accountable for its dishonesty and treatment of workers.”

Sen. Murphy further noted inconsistencies and unsupported claims in Amazon’s response, contradicting public data and investigative journalism.

Amazon driver Jessie Moreno, who is organizing with Teamsters Local 396, accused Amazon of falsely denying control over drivers. "We are demanding the good jobs we deserve,” he added.

In related news, a National Labor Relations Board judge recently ruled that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy violated federal labor laws by making anti-union threats.

The Senators have given Jassy until July 5 to respond to their latest letter.
