Spanberger Secures $9.6 Million for FBI Academy Infrastructure Upgrades
Enhanced Infrastructure and Energy Efficiency Funded by Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger has announced a $9,615,430 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) aimed at energy-efficient renovations to the FBI Academy dormitory in Quantico, Virginia.
The funding comes from DOE’s Assisting Federal Facilities with Energy Conservation Technologies (AFFECT) program, established by the bipartisan infrastructure law, a bill that Spanberger helped pass. The grant will enable extensive renovations, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and safety system upgrades at the Jefferson Dormitory. Moreover, these improvements will support new rooftop and carport solar panels, enhancing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
"Investing in renewable energy is an investment in our clean energy future. These federal funds will support FBI Quantico and enhance energy efficiency, saving Virginia taxpayers on energy costs,” said Spanberger. “The bipartisan infrastructure law is crucial in updating our aging infrastructure."
Program Background
The DOE’s AFFECT program, part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, supports transitioning federal facilities to net-zero emissions. This is the final funding allocation under the program, which includes 67 energy projects nationwide, totaling a $250 million investment in federal facilities.
