Pennsylvania Approves $16M for Infrastructure and Community Projects
Significant Investments Announced for Pennsylvania's Infrastructure and Community Development
The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has greenlit a substantial tranche of funding aimed at revitalizing Pennsylvania’s infrastructure and community spaces. In a recent announcement by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger, 148 projects were approved, totaling over $16 million in grants and loans.
These allocations reflect the Shapiro Administration's commitment to fostering robust communities and boosting economic growth across the state. Secretary Siger noted, “These significant investments are creating safe and healthy communities, and delivering real results for Pennsylvanians.” Projects span a wide range of enhancements, from flood mitigation to the rehabilitation of recreational trails, all intended to improve residents' quality of life.

Overview of Funded Programs
Act 13 Program Approvals:
- Abandoned Mine Drainage Abatement & Treatment Program (AMDATP) – Funding of $64,482 was approved for a project by the Villanova College of Engineering, which will explore using shrimp shell and eggshell waste for treating acid mine drainage in Radnor Township, Delaware County.
- Baseline Water Quality Data Program (BWQDP) – Doylestown Township, Bucks County, will receive $105,594 to collect samples from private water supplies, as part of initiatives to establish baseline water quality data.
- Flood Mitigation Program (FMP) – Nine projects, including the Stinky Run Flood Control Project in Clearfield County, will share $1,038,600 for flood mitigation efforts.
- The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP) – A total of 117 projects will benefit from over $13 million, supporting the enhancement of parks, trails, and open spaces, such as Young’s Woods Park in Lycoming County.
- Orphan or Abandoned Well Plugging Program (OAWP) – The Well Done Foundation will receive $70,000 to plug two gas wells in Millcreek Township, Erie County.
- Sewage Facilities Program (SFP) – With $194,926 allocated for three projects, including a $37,426 grant to West Manheim Township in York County, the program addresses statewide sewage facility compliance.
- Watershed Restoration Protection Program (WRPP) – Sixteen projects will share $1,482,434 for watershed restoration, such as the Tionesta Creek Stream Bank Restoration Project in Forest County.
The CFA has also announced that applications for the PA Small Water and Sewer program will open on February 3 and close on April 30, 2025. This initiative invites municipalities and authorities to apply for grants assisting the construction and repair of water and sewer systems.
