UAW Local 571 Rallies for Fair Contract at General Dynamics Electric Boat
GROTON, CT – Over 2,400 members of UAW Local 571 employed at General Dynamics – Electric Boat are intensifying their efforts to secure a fair contract. They gathered to rally for better pay, retirement benefits for all, and workplace respect.
Following the expiration of their contract on April 4, these skilled workers who contribute to designing submarines for the U.S. military are emphasizing the urgency of a contract that acknowledges their vital contributions.
This rally signifies a step up in negotiations, as union members unite to advocate for enhanced wages, comprehensive retirement plans, and workplace dignity.
Despite General Dynamics reporting over $13 billion in profits over the last three years, the company is proposing substantial increases in weekly medical insurance contributions, ranging from 52% to 161%. Concurrently, the company benefits from a long-term contract to build the U.S. Navy’s nuclear ballistic missile submarine fleet, underscoring the crucial nature of Electric Boat employees’ work.
The union has released a video detailing their demands, available for viewing here on YouTube (media are encouraged to use the footage).
