DHL Teamsters Challenge Board of Directors Over Anti-Worker Actions

DHL Teamsters from across America voiced their concerns over the troubling union-busting and anti-worker practices of the global delivery and logistics giant at DHL Group's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bonn, Germany.

Teamsters, including members from DHL’s global hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), attended the meeting to express their grievances directly to DHL executives. They raised issues related to poor safety conditions, racial discrimination, and anti-union tactics in the U.S.

Francisco Chacon, a 29-year DHL Teamster and shop steward with Teamsters Local 705 in Chicago, criticized DHL’s management for their hostile attitude towards their workers. He emphasized that DHL shareholders needed to understand the conflict between executives and employees.

DHL-CVG sort workers are currently campaigning for Teamsters representation. Despite promises to investors and German consumers of respecting collective bargaining rights, DHL has been accused of launching an anti-union campaign to thwart CVG workers from asserting their rights.

Michael Morency, a member of the CVG Sort Workers Organizing Committee, addressed the disparity treatment compared to their German counterparts at the AGM. He and his colleagues hoped to highlight this issue to German shareholders and consumers.

DHL’s top executives, including CEO Tobias Meyer, have been criticized for ignoring illegal labour practices and exploitative actions in the U.S. Bill Hamilton, Director of the Teamsters Express Division, held Meyer accountable for fostering an environment that disregards labor laws and basic human rights.
