Teamsters Put Pressure on Amazon Over Union Issues
(SAN FRANCISCO) – In a significant move, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Region 20 has filed a complaint against Amazon, accusing the tech giant of illegal anti-union activities at its DCK6 facility in San Francisco. This development marks a substantial victory for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in their ongoing campaign against Amazon.
Randy Korgan, Director of the Teamsters Amazon Division, emphasized the union's determination: “Amazon Teamsters are securing victories on the ground and in the courts. Workers will not back down, and we will continue to take on this behemoth of a company.”
The NLRB's recent actions are viewed as pivotal steps toward holding Amazon accountable for violations against its workers. The latest complaint seeks to compel Amazon to reinstate dismissed employees and ensure that union supporters receive appropriate raises, bonuses, and promotions.
The Teamsters have been persistently challenging Amazon. Earlier in April, NLRB Region 20 issued another complaint, urging Amazon to engage in bargaining with the Teamsters. These legal actions follow a significant strike in December during the holiday season, where over 100 workers in San Francisco joined nationwide protests to spotlight unfair labor practices at Amazon facilities.
Ken Chu, an Amazon Teamster at the DCK6 facility, stated, “Amazon tried every trick in the book to stop us from organizing a union and we succeeded anyway. Our warehouse is now a Teamsters shop. Our union is getting stronger while Amazon is being punished for its lawbreaking.”
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, established in 1903, represents over 1.3 million members across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. More details can be found at Teamster.org. Follow their updates on X at @Teamsters and on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
