Flight Attendants Union Condemns Executive Order as Union Busting

Executive Order Sparks Union Outcry Over Federal Labor Exclusions

WASHINGTON, D.C.— An executive order titled Exclusions from Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs, signed by the President on March 27, 2025, has led to strong criticism from the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA. International President Sara Nelson voiced her concerns in a statement on behalf of the union.

Nelson described the executive order as "an illegal, retaliatory union busting attack on working people, pure and simple." She emphasized that the safety and security of flight attendants and their families depend on the federal workers affected by this order, many of whom are veterans. The order, she argued, aims to penalize those challenging the administration's funding cuts and dismissals, and to deter future opposition to such actions.

The union leader called for immediate action from the labor movement and the broader workforce, stating, "Working people from all walks of life must fight back, now. If we allow this administration to tear up federal union contracts, fire federal workers who stand up for our legal rights and target federal unions and union activists, they won’t stop there. An injury to one is an injury to all. It is time for the labor movement and the American workforce to rise up for our rights and fight for our country - whatever it takes."

The Association of Flight Attendants, dedicated to advocating for flight attendant issues, has been at the forefront of advancing the profession for over 79 years. Representing over 55,000 members within the aviation sector, AFA is part of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO. For more information, visit www.afacwa.org.
