US Foods Drivers Secure Improved Compensation and Benefits

In Livermore, California, drivers at US Foods have achieved a significant victory with the ratification of a new contract that promises enhanced pay and improved health care benefits. These members of Teamsters Local 853 have successfully negotiated a three-year agreement following a decisive strike lasting one week.

Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, emphasized the company's miscalculation, stating, "US Foods thought they could underestimate the Teamsters, but our members don’t break. They held the line to win the contract they deserve. When Teamsters fight, corporations fold."

Victor Sanchez, a driver and Local 853 member, highlighted the resolve of the workers: "We showed this company that we would not back down until we got the pay and benefits we’ve earned."

The agreement ensures a 13 percent wage increase, enhances safety measures, offers paid administrative leave, and leads to significant savings in health care expenses. Additionally, the timing of the contract’s expiration aligns with other US Foods Teamsters contracts in the region, which strengthens the union's position for future negotiations.

"We will always fight and deliver for our hardworking members," stated Steve Beck, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 853. He noted the collaboration with other regional locals, demonstrating that "the Teamsters are unstoppable."
