United Airlines Technicians Rally After Massive Rejection of Contract Proposal
(ORLANDO) – United Airlines aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs), represented by the Teamsters Union, gathered outside Orlando International Airport recently. This rally followed their decisive refusal of the latest contract offer from United Airlines, which was dismissed by 99.5 percent of the union members as unrealistic. More details about this decision can be found in their official rejection notice.
Seeking an agreement that reflects their critical role, the technicians are advocating for industry-leading wages, expedited wage progression for new hires, and assurances against the outsourcing of maintenance work to countries like China. “United’s greedy executives disrespected our members with an insulting, un-American proposal last month,” declared Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “It’s time for this company to stop playing games and put real proposals on the table.”
The Teamsters Union, which represents more than 10,000 United AMTs nationwide, is committed to securing a fair deal. Chris Griswold, Director of the Teamsters Airline Division, emphasized, “United Airlines is one of the most profitable in the entire industry, yet it refuses to reward the workers responsible for those profits with a fair contract.”
Concerns over safety and job security were voiced by Martin Acosta, an Orlando-based technician and negotiating committee member. He stated, “United’s previous offer would have slashed our wages and shipped more of our work to China. We aren’t just fighting to protect our work — we are fighting to protect the American aviation industry.”
Established in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters advocates for over 1.3 million members across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. For further information, visit Teamster.org. Stay updated by following them on X at @Teamsters and on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
