Alaska Airlines Flight Attendants Secure New Contract with Significant Pay Increases

SEATTLE (February 28, 2025) – Alaska Airlines Flight Attendants have ratified a groundbreaking three-year contract negotiated by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), which includes substantial wage increases, new boarding pay, and retroactive compensation.

This agreement, which affects 7,000 Flight Attendants, introduces industry-leading boarding compensation surpassing other major airlines, along with enhanced pay for trip reassignments, extended reserve shifts, and flights extending into scheduled days off.

Jeffrey Peterson, AFA President at Alaska Airlines, highlighted the contract's impact, stating, “This contract will immediately and significantly improve the lives of Alaska Flight Attendants.” He emphasized the solidarity among the Flight Attendants which compelled management to acknowledge their crucial role in the airline's operations. The contract also serves as a foundation for upcoming negotiations following the Alaska-Hawaiian merger.

With a 95% approval rate from 91% of participating Flight Attendants, the contract sets a new benchmark in the industry.

Sara Nelson, International President of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, representing over 55,000 Flight Attendants across 20 airlines, remarked on the significance of the agreement, stating, “As all eyes have turned to the essential work of Flight Attendants, this industry-leading contract not only provides Alaska Flight Attendants with what they’ve earned, but it reinforces the contract standards for all Flight Attendants across the industry.”

The contract's provisions include:

  • Immediate pay scale increases ranging from 18.6% to 28.3% upon signing, boarding pay, 25 months of retroactive pay, and two additional salary raises during the contract period.
  • 150% pay for trip reassignments.
  • 200% pay for extended reserve duties, which cover shifts extending to 24 hours, with additional compensation for the initial duty period, regardless of voluntary or involuntary shift extension.
  • 250% pay for flights occurring during scheduled days off.
  • Introduction of a sixth vacation week after 25 years of service, without the 960-hour requirement.
  • Enhanced sick leave bank and cashout options.
  • Retention of the maximum 10.5-hour scheduled duty day.
  • Increases in per diem and company 401k matching contributions.
  • Increased compensation for premium assignments, deadheading, and training sessions.
