NABTU Welcomes Inauguration of U.S. Leaders, Emphasizes Key Workers' Issues

Washington, D.C. – January 20, 2025 – As the United States witnesses the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) have expressed their views and expectations regarding this new chapter in American leadership.

In an official statement, NABTU President Sean McGarvey extended congratulations on behalf of the organization and its substantial membership, hailing the inauguration as a testament to the enduring principles of democracy and the peaceful transition of power in the nation.

The organization, representing 3 million members spanning America's workforce, voiced its intention to collaborate with the new administration to drive policies benefitting hard-working citizens. McGarvey articulated the union's stance, emphasizing the essential nature of job growth, competitive wages, health and safety regulations, and the enhancement of infrastructure and economic stability as priorities for the workforce.

McGarvey stated, “President Trump, many of our members voted for you and are counting on you to prioritize critical issues that affect their lives—job growth, fair wages, health and safety, and the strengthening of our nation’s infrastructure and economic security.” The union calls for the administration's leadership to safeguard and promote frameworks that are pivotal to America’s prosperity.

Highlighting the multitude of challenges ahead, NABTU urged the new leaders to ensure these workforce issues are addressed and to avoid decisions that might hinder progress for construction workers. Key areas of concern include maintaining Registered Apprenticeship programs, supporting Project Labor Agreements, safeguarding wages, and prioritizing energy initiatives that bolster the workforce.

In the pursuit of sustained growth and opportunity for American workers, NABTU underlined the necessity of unity and a dedication to fostering economic security. The union stressed that weakening the established frameworks could jeopardize the future of workers and the broader economic landscape.
